About Lake Conroe
Lake Conroe is located five miles west of Conroe and approximately one hour north of downtown Houston (via IH-45), extends 21 miles in length and covers 21,000 surface acres. Lake Conroe offers clean, clear water for a large variety of recreation (boating, fishing, hunting, golfing, swimming, water skiing, jet skiing, pleasure boating, etc.). Luxurious hotels and condominiums, quality RV Parks, waterfront boat storage with valet launching, luxurious waterfront real estate developments are only a few of the attractions to this exceptional man made Lake only 60 minutes north from Houston via IH-45. Fed by the San Jacinto River and many creeks, the common fish species include: Largemouth, Smallmouth, Yellow and Hybrid Striped Bass; Blue Gill, Bowfin, Smallmouth Buffalo; Grass Carp, Blue Channel and Flathead Catfish; Redear, Longear, and Redspotted Sunfish; Black and White Crappie; and Warmouth.

Camping / Hiking
Jones State Forest Park Office - 1.5 miles west of I-45 on FM 1488 936-273-2261 (Information) Visitors to Jones State Forest, listed on the Great Coastal Birding Trail - Upper Coast map, may enjoy tracking the red-cockaded woodpecker, which calls the forest its home. The forest is used as a demonstration and working forest, although it has become a popular area for the public to enjoy. Forest features include the Sweetleaf Nature Trail, a self-guided nature trail; two small ponds; a picnic area and parking for horse trailers. The forest office is open regular office hours and guests are asked to sign in before entering the forest.
Sam Houston National Forest Park Office - 2 miles west of I-45 on FM 1375 936-344-6205 (Information and Reservations) Visitors to the Sam Houston National Forest can pursue a variety of activities. Stubblefield Lake Campground is a fully developed camping area; if you prefer primitive camping, Kelly’s Pond Campground is an excellent spot. Cagle Recreation Area and Scott’s Ridge provide boat launches, and the 140-mile Lone Star Hiking Trail is a fabulous spot for hiking enthusiasts. The trail is divided into five loops which can offer a multitude of day hikes or long, overnight backpacking trips. There are 47 full RV hook-ups and multi-use trails for horses, ATV’s, mountain and dirt bikes.
